Psychological Therapy
Support for children & families
I draw on 10+ years training and working as a clinical psychologist in the NHS and private practice, drawing on a range of clinical psychology and holistic approaches to create spaces to explore difficulties, to promote a deeper understanding of yours and your child’s experiences, and work together to build a specially tailored map and creative ideas to help you move towards your preferred futures and to thrive.
I work flexibly - offering psychological therapy to support children and families, or a one-off consultation for parents around concerns they have for their child or young person. Some parents find that is enough to guide them towards existing and further coping resources to continue to support their child or young person.
I can support children and families when a child is experiencing:
Anxiety, anger, low mood & behaviour concerns
Adjustment to a neurodevelopmental / health diagnosis.
Living with a long-term physical health condition (parent or child)
Grief, loss, bereavement
Adjusting to transitions and change
Trauma
Relationships issues with family / friends
Issues around identity
Concerns around confidence, self-critical thoughts
Body image
& much more.
My Approach
Seeking help as a parent for you or your child, when your child or family is experiencing difficulties or distress is a courageous step to support yours and your child’s holistic needs. Feelings (all of them) are fundamental to being human - for big and small humans. Living a full and whole hearted life is not the absence of feelings, it’s finding ways to navigate them that allow us greater flexibility, freedom and choice.
My approach to therapy is a warm, non-judgemental space. With nearly 10+ years training and working as a clinical psychologist, with experience of working in perinatal, adult, child and family mental health settings, and paediatrics including Great Ormond Street Hospital, The Royal Brompton Hospital and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, I draw on a range of psychological and holistic approaches to help parents, children and families explore concerns, connect to their unique strengths and coping skills, and move towards what truly matters for their family. My work is often with parents to support their children’s wellbeing, and we may agree to see children during our work to bring their voice into the thinking around what support they need and open up further support options.
Your unique family
Every child, family and parent system is unique, which is why I draw on a range of psychology approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy, systemic and narrative therapy, mindfulness, compassion-focused therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy. I also use nurturing parenting, and trauma-informed and focused approaches. I draw on mind-body techniques and yoga therapy skills to promote emotion regulation and transformation.
I am interested in understanding families within their unique context, supporting them to give voice to experiences and build their preferred futures. This might include (although not limited to) family culture, race, gender, sexuality. We might explore the wider social political contexts that impact on psychological wellbeing and mental health, including systems of power and oppression, dominant societal narratives (for example around parenting or motherhood) from a reflective, relational, critical and community psychology lens.
