Yoga Therapy
For children and young people
A quote about this work for children…
My Approach
Yoga and meditation can be an empowering tool to promote self-awareness, emotion and attention regulation, compassion and connection to our own coping resources. My approach draws on clinical psychology models including mindfulness-based approaches. I work closely with schools, wellbeing organisations, teachers and mentors to promote mindfulness and yoga within communities. I have contributed to the development of a specialist community based child yoga teacher training in schools (with the renowned Yoga on the Lane), and young people community groups in East London.
These sessions are all about P.A.C.E:
P
Playfulness
Sessions can be shorter, full of creativity, play, fun, self-discovery, self-expression and rest. Story and games for smaller children, and creative and meaningful ways for young people to engage with yoga and meditation.
A
Acceptance
We meet children, young people and families where they are at and begin there. We acknowledge the complexities and context that can impact on our lives, or even that day, and meet without judgement.
C
Curiosity
Curiosity about experiences (body-mind-heart). Classes include physical postures, introducing different aspects of the yoga framework (acknowledging its roots and modern developments).
E
Empathy
Promoting empathy, connection and compassion. Building relationships and letting children and families lead. Interweaved with wellbeing ideas adapted to their developmental stage, to take into their lives.
*PACE is an approach created by Dr Dan Hughes. It has been adapted in different settings to promote positive child & family wellbeing.
