Talking Therapy
Support for parents & families
I specialise in working with parents when feeling stuck, worried or unsure about a difficulty in theirs or their child’s life. Recognising and navigating challenges can invite opportunities for compassion, connection and coping resources. I draw on a range of clinical psychology and holistic approaches to promote a deeper understanding of their’s, or their child’s experiences to cope and thrive. Whether it’s a one off consultation or ongoing therapy sessions, I meet parents where they are at to make a plan together to support their unique experiences and needs at this time. I support a range of parent/child/family concerns from the perinatal stages and beyond.
This inlcudes:
Anxiety, anger, low mood & behaviour concerns
Adjustment to a neurodevelopmental / health diagnosis.
Living with a long-term physical health condition (parent or child)
Transition, grief and loss
Trauma
Relationship, identity issues
Experiences of parenthood
My Approach
Seeking help as a parent when your child or family is experiencing difficulties or distress is a courageous step to support yours and your child’s holistic needs. Feelings (all of them) are fundamental to being human - for big and small humans. Living a full and whole hearted life is not the absence of feelings, it’s finding ways to navigate them that allow us greater flexibility, freedom and choice.
My approach to therapy is a warm, non-judgemental space. With 10+ years in the NHS, I draw on a range of psychological and holistic approaches to help parents explore concerns, connect to unique strengths and coping skills, and move towards what truly matters for their family. Most of my work is with adults around children. We may agree to see children during our work to bring their voice into the thinking and further support.
Your unique family
Every child, family and parent system is unique, which is why I draw on a range of psychology approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy, systemic and narrative therapy, mindfulness, compassion-focused therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy. I also use nurturing parenting, and trauma-informed and focused approaches. I draw on mind-body techniques and yoga therapy skills to promote emotion regulation and transformation.
I am interested in understanding families within their unique context, supporting them to give voice to experiences and build their preferred futures. This might include (although not limited to) family culture, race, gender, sexuality. We might explore the wider social political contexts that impact on psychological wellbeing and mental health, including systems of power and oppression, dominant societal narratives (for example around parenting or motherhood) from a reflective, relational, critical and community psychology lens.
