<image:title>Workshops - RADICAL REST CIRCLE (October): An online yoga & psychology workshop radical rest - Dr Chantell Douglas- Clinical Psychologist, Yoga Teacher, Yoga Therapist</image:title>
<image:caption>“For 10+ years, I have worked alongside, and supported large NHS staff teams, education and care staff experiencing acute crises, trauma and burn out. I am passionate about integrating the science of psychology with embodied practices and the ancient wisdom of yoga. I am interested in working collaboratively with individuals and communities to co-create more tailored care, and in socially just ways. My approach is gentle, inviting awareness of the body and our moment-to-moment experiences, exploring movement to find release, freedom and joy for all bodies, ways to connect people to the wisdom, experiences and resources that exists in our bodies, breath and the natural world, to be more accessible to us all. In the stress of our day-to-day lives, and in systems that can challenge, cultivating space for rest, care and connection is vital towards collective healing and re-imagined ways of being.” Chantell’s work is also informed by mindfulness and compassion approaches, narrative therapy and systemic practice. <image:caption>“I weave together the ancient philosophy of yoga and the science of psychology to create a safe space, away from the chaos of life, where you can tune into your own unique voice. I specialise in offering support to NHS staff who have experienced trauma or burnout, and those who live with emotional health challenges, physical health challenges, or fatigue. I have a wealth of experience working alongside children and adults where their health challenges have not been well understood by the western medical system. My practice is collaborative; I will bring some ideas and also listen carefully to what you and your body need. I lean towards gentle yoga practices, where your experience within your body is more important than being able to get into the poses. I am passionate about supporting you to find deep rest in your body, and life. I believe there is much healing and wisdom to be unearthed in these magical, restorative places.” Jo’s work is also informed by narrative therapy, systemic practice and training in EMDR.</image:caption>

Classes include asana (yoga postures), meditation, breath-work, mantra and mudras, drawing on ancient wisdom and modern science and psychology to cultivate psychological wellbeing. Longer workshops or courses may also offer a mixture of practice, teaching and reflective journaling. If attending a one-off class, this can be valuable in its own right. When joining a course, each session will build on the next, encouraging you to develop a deeper awareness of your body-mind experiences and discover tools to take beyond the mat into your personal practice and life. Each class is thoughtfully and compassionately guided. Open to all levels and beginners.</image:caption>

<image:title>For Children & Families - My Approach</image:title>
<image:caption>Seeking help as a parent for you or your child, when your child or family is experiencing difficulties or distress is a courageous step to support yours and your child’s holistic needs. Feelings (all of them) are fundamental to being human - for big and small humans. Living a full and whole hearted life is not the absence of feelings, it’s finding ways to navigate them that allow us greater flexibility, freedom and choice. My approach to therapy is a warm, non-judgemental space. With nearly 10+ years training and working as a clinical psychologist, with experience of working in perinatal, adult, child and family mental health settings, and paediatrics including Great Ormond Street Hospital, The Royal Brompton Hospital and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, I draw on a range of psychological and holistic approaches to help parents, children and families explore concerns, connect to their unique strengths and coping skills, and move towards what truly matters for their family. My work is often with parents to support their children’s wellbeing, and we may agree to see children during our work to bring their voice into the thinking around what support they need and open up further support options.</image:caption>
</image:image>

<image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6055c7f1407338398962394f/4e7553e8-2269-49d1-a1f1-a29af438fb96/reba-spike-9C0VCZAfhN0-unsplash.jpg</image:loc>
<image:title>For Children & Families - Your unique family</image:title>
<image:caption>Every child, family and parent system is unique, which is why I draw on a range of psychology approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy, systemic and narrative therapy, mindfulness, compassion-focused therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy. I also use nurturing parenting, and trauma-informed and focused approaches. I draw on mind-body techniques and yoga therapy skills to promote emotion regulation and transformation. I am interested in understanding families within their unique context, supporting them to give voice to experiences and build their preferred futures. This might include (although not limited to) family culture, race, gender, sexuality. We might explore the wider social political contexts that impact on psychological wellbeing and mental health, including systems of power and oppression, dominant societal narratives (for example around parenting or motherhood) from a reflective, relational, critical and community psychology lens.</image:caption>

<image:title>Yoga Therapy - What is yoga therapy?</image:title>
<image:caption>Yoga therapy is an inclusive, integrative and transformative approach for working with parents, children, young people and families - it can cultivate a sense of one’s unique voice, confidence, self-awareness, connection to their essence and whole selves, to nature, to relationships with others and sense of what truly matters for their lives. It’s a coming home to oneself and welcoming of all our parts. Yoga therapy is grounded in ancient yoga wisdom, philosophy and ethics, and invites us to integrate psychological therapy models within the story and language of the body. It encourages qualities such as curiosity, awareness, non-judgement, interoception and compassion- building blocks for psychological wellbeing. It views the body as full of wisdom, and a tool to integrate our mind-body-whole human experiences (e.g. through movement, breath, mantra, song, meditation and other regulatory practices) and in turn build coping skills to transform and take into our daily lives.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Yoga therapy sessions are offered directly with children and young people, and liaison with parents / child’s support network alongside. I can also see whole families together, or work directly with parents to nurture ways to integrate these ideas into their own or their child’s life. I have extensive experience of working with schools and wellbeing organisations to strengthen community support for children and families. As part of this mission, I have contributed to developing and teaching on ‘YOGA CLUB!’, a special child yoga teacher training (founded by Yoga on the Lane) to deliver free yoga to children in schools.</image:caption>

<image:title>Workplace Wellbeing - My Approach</image:title>
<image:caption>I offer a range of nurturing body-based practices to integrate and promote psychological wellbeing for adults, parents, children and young people. My teaching explores the therapeutic aspects of yoga, integrating its ancient wisdom with modern science and psychology. I draw on specialist training and experience, including mindfulness, compassion and acceptance-based psychological approaches, within the comprehensive yoga framework of physical postures, meditation, breath-work and other mind-body-heart practices.</image:caption>

<image:title>Parent & family advice and support - My Approach</image:title>
<image:caption>Seeking help as a parent when your child or family is experiencing difficulties or distress is a courageous step to support yours and your child’s holistic needs. Feelings (all of them) are fundamental to being human - for big and small humans. Living a full and whole hearted life is not the absence of feelings, it’s finding ways to navigate them that allow us greater flexibility, freedom and choice. My approach to therapy is a warm, non-judgemental space. With 10+ years in the NHS, I draw on a range of psychological and holistic approaches to help parents explore concerns, connect to unique strengths and coping skills, and move towards what truly matters for their family. Most of my work is with adults around children. We may agree to see children during our work to bring their voice into the thinking and further support.</image:caption>

<image:title>Parent & family advice and support - Your unique family</image:title>

<image:caption>Feelings (all of them) are fundamental to being human. Living a full and whole hearted life is not the absence of feelings, it’s finding ways to navigate them that allow us greater flexibility, freedom and choice. Seeking help is a courageous step. My approach to therapy is a warm, open and non-judgemental space. With 10+ years training and working as a clinical psychologist in the NHS, working across the lifespan in adult and child mental health settings, I draw on a range of psychological and holistic approaches to explore concerns, connect to your unique strengths and coping skills, and move towards what truly matters to you. I draw on a range of science-based clinical psychology models including cognitive behavioural therapy, systemic and narrative therapy, mindfulness-based approaches, compassion-focused therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy. I also draw on science, research and training in body-mind approaches, yoga therapy skills and tools to promote emotion and nervous system regulation, growth and transformation.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Seeking help as a parent (or parent-to-be), when you, your child or family is experiencing difficulties is a courageous step to support yours and/or your child’s holistic needs. Every child, family and parent system and individual is unique, and the type of support we need may differ too. Sometimes parents / families find a time-limited number of sessions (1-3) enough to help better understand a concern around their child, parenting or family, to connect to existing strengths and skills, and to signpost to any further coping resources they may want / need, to continue working towards.</image:caption>

<image:title>Parent / Family Consultations - What is a consultation?</image:title>
<image:caption>These time limited sessions (1-3) provide a supportive space to talk about a specific concern or issue. Consultation sessions are brief, as the focus is on starting to make sense of experiences, rather than exploring difficulties in depth or ongoing therapy. My approach to consultation is warm and friendly, inviting everybody to feel listened to and understood - whether it is as a parent, couple or family. With 10+ years training and working as a clinical psychologist across the lifespan, and specialist training in parent, child, family and body-based therapy approaches, I draw on a range of tools to help us develop a formulation (or map) of experiences linked to your main concern, to build a shared understanding of struggles and strengths, and any support recommendations.</image:caption>

<image:title>Psychological Therapy - Adults, Children & Families - How we can support:</image:title>
<image:caption>Feelings (all of them) are fundamental to being human- for children and adults. Living a full and whole hearted life is not the absence of feelings, it’s finding ways to navigate them that allow us greater flexibility, freedom and choice. I believe that transformation and change can come in context of connection, compassion and a welcoming and nurturing environment - holistic psychology is a whole human approach, drawing on a range of science-based mind-body-spirit approaches to help you / your family connect to its unique strengths and coping skills, find creative ways to navigate difficulties, to reframe old stories, to move closer to what truly matters in your lives and heart, and your preferred futures.</image:caption>

<image:title>Psychological Therapy - Adults, Children & Families - With 10+ years training and working as a clinical psychologist, working across the life span, I have specialist training in a range of evidence-based psychological approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy, systemic and narrative therapy, mindfulness, compassion-focused therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy. I draw on nurturing parenting, and trauma-informed and focused approaches. I have specialist expertise in using mind-body techniques and yoga therapy skills to promote emotion and nervous system regulation, transformation and growth. We may use these approaches in an integrated way, or decide together to use one primary approach.</image:title>

<image:title>Psychological Therapy - Adults, Children & Families - Your unique family</image:title>
<image:caption>Seeking help as a parent (or parent-to-be), when you, your child or family is experiencing difficulties or distress is a courageous step to support yours and/or your child’s holistic needs. Every child, family and parent system and individual is unique, which is why I draw on a range of approaches. When working together, we will explore to make sense of your experiences, connect to your voice and values, and work compassionately to help you navigate understandable struggles, and nurture strengths and coping skills.</image:caption>

<image:title>Psychological Therapy - Adults, Children & Families - I am interested in understanding individuals and families within their unique context, supporting them to give voice to experiences and build their preferred futures. This might include (although not limited to) family culture, race, gender, sexuality, and unique intersections of their identities that impact on their experience of the world. We might explore the wider social political contexts that impact on psychological wellbeing and mental health, including systems of power and oppression, dominant societal narratives (for example around parenting or motherhood) from a reflective, relational, critical and community psychology lens.</image:title>
